TALNAMICA, EL SALVADOR

The Talnamica farm is owned and operated by the Ortiz Herrera family, including Nena Mendez, of Finca Natamaya. This farm has been in their family for generations, and holds many wonderful memories for them. The farm is a classic representation of El Salvador. Grand Bourbon trees grace generations old farms, grown and cared for as family heirlooms. The entrance to the farm is framed by trees, over 60 years old, that were brought back from Israel and planted by the family patriarch. Near the farmhouse grows an indigenous herb garden that is used by the community to make teas and herbal remedies for things like stomach-aches and joint pain.

While Nena and two of her siblings currently live in New York City, they employ Don Hector Vides as the farm Manager who, after running a large coffee cooperative for 25 years, joined the family business. He and Freddie, the eldest brother in the family, oversee all operations from the planting of seeds to exporting the green coffee. We are pleased to announce that one dollar from each bag sold of this coffee will go to fund a charity organization which benefits a school and clinic in the community.

    Although our family grows this coffee and that makes me bias towards a favorable review, I must share that the coffee came beautifully packaged, freshly roasted, and had a delicious aroma. The roast was perfectly even, with beans uniform in size and color, once ground it smell of chocolate. I prepared a pour over for my daughters and I and we were stunned by how clear, naturally sweet, full bodied this was. Rich flavor that changed over time and enjoyable till the last drop. I think Irving Farms did a great job with the roasting and the immediate delivery of this coffee.
