Ocotal, located in Northern Nicaragua, lies in the middle of a valley that is virtually desert. Hot and dry, the city is isolated from Atlantic winds, and also from rain, by the mountains in the East. Ocotal is home to David Lovo and his family, the owners of Las Praderas. Their family has lived in Ocotal for many years, with their family residence located right off the town square.
Traveling to their farm in Dipilto--an 11 mile, 40 minute drive from Ocotal--paints a completely different picture. As you start to head up into the mountains, the flora changes dramatically from cactus and brush to trees and lush forest. Las Praderas has been a family affair for generations. David’s brother owns coffee farms nearby, and his father is often found touring the farms with his sons, whom he taught to grow coffee. David speaks fondly of the farms, proclaiming as he climbs the steep mountain roads in his 4X4, “this is where I learned to be a man!”
His dedication to the farm is apparent in the beautiful Caturra coffee he produces. It has all of the deep, rich flavors that are commonly known to Nicaragua, but what makes it exceptional is a sparkling clarity, and cleanness in the cup. Look for flavors of black tea and vanilla enveloped in a soft creamy body.

Not only are the beans sourced from one farm, they're sourced from one micro-lot of land on that farm, ensuring a highly consistent flavor and experience.
